The Impact of Transplanting Environmental Impact Assessment Law into the Ethiopian Legal system

Abstract

Legal transplantation is not a recent phenomenon. Besides, legaltransplantation happens everywhere. Once transplanted, laws may beimplemented effectively or partly, or disregarded altogether. InEthiopia, the EIA Law is the result of legal transplantation becauseevidence shows that the government enacted the law due to someexternal factors. Yet, at the moment, the law is implemented althoughits implementation is selective. On the other hand, such selectiveimplementation of a transplanted law can eventually lead to the totaldisregard of the law.
