Abstract

Previous studies identified some factors that impact university teachers’ job satisfaction (JS), which is a timely concern. However, recent studies on the unique relationship between JS, demographic characteristics, and communication satisfaction lack. This study intended to fill this gap. Applying a cross-sectional correlation research design and a multi-stage sampling technique, the study collected data from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the College of Natural Sciences, and the College of Educational and Behavioral Sciences. The sample size 252 was determined using the Yamane 1967 formula considering 10% of the contingency. An adapted self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 252 respondents, and 236 were returned filled properly. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and parametric tests (e.g. a multiple regression). The analysis revealed that educational level (having Ph.D.), work experience (working beyond 16 years), region (coming from SNNPR ), residence (living in a private house), and salary significantly related to communication climate satisfaction and JS. However, only region and income could uniquely influence communication climate satisfaction and OJS. From the dimensions of communication satisfaction, except supervisory communication skills, communication flow, communication climate, and quality of communication uniquely influenced overall JS. The study concluded that communication satisfaction influences OJS. Finally, it indicated the theoretical and practical implications of the findings for researchers, supervisors, and communication experts.
